About this Event
Negro Election Black Celebration
King Pompey in 1740 established Negro Election Day as a way to build black self-governing. Throughout New England, African enslaved men were building a Black Voting System as a way to protect the safety of African people. Today the celebration continues 283 years later. Today Salem United, Inc. has preserved the history of why we come to Salem Willows park annually.
