About this Event

“THERE’S A PRICELESS HISTORY OF THE PLANET OF THE EARTH, FROZEN IN TIME AND STORED IN A FREEZER AT OHIO STATE.”

Join Filmmakers Collaborative + GlobeDocs as we celebrate Earth Month with a FREE screening of the FC-sponsored feature documentary, CANARY, and short film THE CHELSEA COOL BLOCK

About the films:

CANARY: Witness the extraordinary life of Dr. Lonnie Thompson, an explorer who went where no scientist had gone before and transformed our idea of what is possible. Daring to seek Earth’s history contained in glaciers atop the tallest mountains in the world, Lonnie found himself on the frontlines of climate change—his life’s work evolving into a salvage mission to recover these priceless historical records before they disappear forever.

Producer: Adam Paul Smith
Directors: Alex Rivest and Danny O’Mally

THE CHELSEA COOL BLOCK : Chelsea, Massachusetts is hot. As the climate warms, the city is getting hotter. In summer, Chelsea becomes an intense island of heat. The high temperatures and humidity cause stress to the human body, inducing heat stroke and dehydration, and exacerbating medical issues such as diabetes, asthma, and COPD. This is especially bad in low income communities like Chelsea, where there is a struggle to pay for air conditioning at home and getting to work can mean waiting for public transportation on streets super-heated by cars and buses. In The Chelsea Cool Block, researchers, city staff, landscape architects, engineers, community groups, and philanthropists come together to create the ambitious Cool Block project: Identify the hottest block and, using a bundle of already proven strategies, try to cool it down.

Doors open at 6pm.
