About this Event

In this in-person workshop, learn the fundamentals of the four main types of intellectual property (IP): trademarks, copyrights, patents, and trade secrets. For each type of IP, business attorneys will provide examples, explain what each protects (and does not protect), go over the laws governing each, and show where to find official resources to learn more. Time will be reserved for audience Q&A.

Topics Covered:*

  • Copyrights: protect original creative works, like writing, art, and media
  • Trademarks: protect names, logos, and slogans that identify a business
  • Patents: protect inventions, designs, and processes from being copied
  • Trade Secrets: protection of confidential business information that gives a competitive advantage and has value because it is not generally known

*The majority of the presentation time will be allocated to discussing Copyrights and Trademarks.

Who Should Attend:

  • Entrepreneurs
  • Small Business Owners
  • Business Consultants
  • Anyone interested in learning about intellectual property law

This informative workshop is offered at no cost and is being sponsored in partnership with the North Shore Alliance for Economic Development and the Massachusetts Office of Business Development (MOBD).
