About this Event
SAFE will be joined by our partners at Tufts University’s Tisch College. Opening remarks will be provided by the Dean, Dr. Dayna Cunningham. Student researchers from the program will discuss their work. Bridget Moynihan studied public power for offshore wind and is published by the Climate & Community Institute. Sebastian Barajas Ortiz studied wind port electrification and is published with Bridget’s contributions by the university here. Our moderator, Carlos Avila, is an offshore wind and workforce developer professional. He grew up in Salem when we still had a coal plant, and now lives in New Bedford where he has driven efforts behind building MA’s first offshore wind port. Once at the New Bedford Ocean Cluster as the Business Development Manager, and now as the Community Engagement Director at the Environmental League of Massachusetts, Carlos oversees community efforts on offshore wind state-wide.
Our program includes a few words and an update from Crowley, Salem’s wind port developers, and from our partners at the North Shore Labor Council.
