About this Event
Let us take you for a walking tour through one of Beverly’s most fascinating historic streets, where architecture, maritime history, neighborhood life, and industry all meet.
Laid out in 1803 as one of Beverly’s early roads leading toward the water, Washington Street tells the story of a changing city. Once bordered by open land and fish-drying yards, the street grew into a neighborhood shaped by captains and mariners, tradespeople, shoe workers, prominent families, and generations of residents who made their homes there.
From Greek Revival homes to Victorian-era residences, Washington Street offers a layered view of Beverly’s growth from working waterfront town to historic neighborhood. Along the way, we’ll explore the people, industries, homes, and stories that shaped the street’s character, while also considering its place near Beverly’s beautiful Gold Coast and the waterfront landscapes that helped define the city’s history.
