SUMMARY:Edmonia Lewis: Said in Stone Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Born in Greenbush\, New York in 1844\, Lewis became the first sculptor of Black and Indigenous (Mississauga) descent to achieve international recognition. Beginning her career in Boston in 1863\, she traveled to Rome in 1866 to join the leading American sculptors of her generation\, breaking international\, racial and gender barriers. “Sometimes the times were dark and the outlook was lonesome\, but where there is a will\, there is a way\,” Lewis recalled in 1878. “That is what I tell my people whenever I meet them\, that they must not be discouraged\, but work ahead until the world is bound to respect them for what they have accomplished.” \nFollowing her death in 1907\, Lewis’ legacy endured in Black communities\, yet her contribution to American sculpture has largely been underrecognized. Some of her great masterpieces were rediscovered decades later\, while others remain lost today. \nHer vivid\, naturalistic stone sculptures feature abolitionists and social reformers\, engage with Indigenous identity and give new life to religious and mythological figures. \nDiscover the first museum exhibition of its kind to gather the full range of Lewis’s art alongside works by her contemporaries and the generations of artists she influenced. Together these 115 objects foreground Lewis’s life and work within her worlds and reveal her true mastery of marble. \nFollow along on social media using #EdmoniaLewisatPEM

SUMMARY:Knowing Nature: Stories of the Boreal Forest Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Home to 3.7 million people\, 85 species of animals\, 32\,000 species of insects and 2 billion migratory birds\, the boreal forest spans nearly the entire Northern Hemisphere\, just below the Arctic Circle\, and makes up one of the world’s last remaining stretches of true wilderness. \nDiscover the biodiversity and global importance of our northernmost forests through first-person stories\, commissioned objects\, interactive experiences and exquisite photography and videography. \nThe boreal forest is critical to the health of our entire planet. SUMMARY:Beyond the Broom: Salem Short Films Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Discover more than 60 mini-documentaries by local filmmakers.\n\n\n\n\nThese films honor the lesser-known stories of Salem and offer a behind-the-scenes look at what makes this city so remarkable. \nProduced over the course of more than seven years by Perry Hallinan\, Joe Cultrera and many other filmmakers for presentation at the Salem Film Fest\, these short films span topics from breakfast at Red’s to the annual Black Picnic at Salem Willows. For longtime Salem residents\, these stories might spark nostalgia; for new residents and tourists\, they illuminate Salem’s vibrant communities\, bygone businesses and traditions that local filmmakers have long worked to record and preserve. Beyond the Broom showcases the vibrant community of Salem\, one with an identity that extends beyond its witch trials history \nThis exhibition is part of the 2026 celebration of Salem 400+\, which commemorates the quadricentennial of the city’s settlement while honoring the preexisting Indigenous community. The initiative aims to engage the Salem community and ensure a vibrant and sustainable city for generations to come. \nFollow along on social media using #BeyondtheBroom

SUMMARY:East India Marine Hall Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Reflect upon the global perspective that has made Salem such a distinctive city as we mark the 200th anniversary of East India Marine Hall. \nExplore several hundred fascinating objects inside the historic hall\, representing a sampling of the many collections that were displayed in the museum during its earliest years. SUMMARY:Fashion & Design Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:PEM’s Fashion & Design gallery invites visitors to consider how we are designing creatures who continually respond to\, mold and manipulate our changing world.\n\n\n\n\nDesign is an impulse that unifies us across time and culture. This installation unifies two traditionally disparate collecting fields\, fashion and textiles with decorative and industrial arts to better understand what underlies our motivations and capacity for design. \nEnsembles from the Iris Apfel Rare Bird of Fashion collection celebrate the exuberant remixing and inventive styling of one of the world’s most prominent fashion icons\, while constellations of unique and culturally significant works of design\, fashion\, and textiles explore distinctive and resourceful forms of creative expression. \nA recent gallery highlight is the display of 38 vibrant and flamboyant ensembles from the collection of Boston-based entrepreneur and fashion icon Yolanda Cellucci. Yolanda’s\, based in Waltham\, Massachusetts\, was a hotspot for lavish evening and wedding ensembles and that became a household name throughout the region\, and a shorthand for glitz and glamor in the late 20th century. Cellucci generously donated 57 works of fashion and accessories to PEM in 2021\, along with archival photographs and materials related to the legacy of her bridal shop. \nShare your impressions on social media using the hashtag #PEMfashionanddesign

SUMMARY:DEAD LEAF DESIGNS PRESENTS: AN INSECT TAXIDERMY EXHIBITION BY ADAM INZALACO
DESCRIPTION:Taxidermy is one of the many intersections of art and science. Insect preservation began as a scientific method for studying and cataloging the natural world. Over time\, the practice evolved into an art form\, with techniques for preserving insects becoming more refined and specialized. \nWhile taxidermy itself is a non-religious trade\, it frequently overlaps with Satanic aesthetics due to a shared focus on the macabre\, mortality\, and the subversion of traditional norms. For many modern Satanists\, taxidermy is not about literal worship but about embracing a “memento mori” philosophy—a reminder of death and the value of one’s own finite life. \nAdam Inzalaco is a Massachusetts-based artist who studied fine art at Stony Brook University.  Here\, he would develop a focus in sculpture within the Fine Art Program at SBU. Throughout his time here\, Inzalaco would develop a strong understanding of a wide array of materials and media including steel\, bronze\, woodworking\, ceramics\, and many more. \nThroughout his academic career\, he would often focus his assignments to revolve around the topic of entomology.  He would design works to bring attention to various species of insects’ impressive anatomy as well as address the importance that insects play in the planet’s ecosystem. \nIn addition to studying at University\, he would begin a short internship at the Long Island Exhibition Center in Riverhead\, NY.  Here\, Inzalaco would work alongside the lead entomologist to gather a better understanding of the animals that he had been studying on his own for the duration of his time as an art student. It is at the Exhibition Center where Inzalaco would learn how to pin\, articulate\, and mount all sorts of species of insects\, ranging from beetles to butterflies and mantids to phasmids. \nAfter his time at SBU\, he would use the knowledge he gathered at both University and the Exhibition Center to design insect displays. Thus\, Dead Leaf Designs was born.  At this point\, Inzalaco’s passion became an obsession and continues to use this as the main driving point to make high-quality handmade displays. \nInviolable: adjective never to be broken\, infringed\, or dishonored. \nBodily autonomy has been a central pillar of The Satanic Temple’s mission since its founding. TST is taking many steps on behalf of our members and those who share our beliefs to establish exemptions from laws that do not promote the health and safety of patients and violate our conscience and beliefs. Learn more about this work on The Satanic Temple’s Website. \nThis exhibition features over 25 artists from around the world who have explored bodily autonomy in their work. Through each artist’s unique voice\, viewers are invited to walk in another’s shoes and experience what autonomy means for their peers\, colleagues\, and loved ones. By the careful selection of pieces\, our curator hopes to amplify the voices of underrepresented and marginalized individuals in a world that tries to stifle them.

SUMMARY:BAPHOMET Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Mark Porter was born in Warwick\, Rhode Island\, but is based in Brooklyn\, where he has established a studio that merges sculpture\, installation\, and innovative construction techniques across mediums. Trained in classical sculpture\, Mark worked as Boaz Vaadia’s assistant\, finding a great affinity in the artist’s use of space and the natural environment in his sculptures.\n\nWhile Mark does not deliberately court controversy\, his combination of the beautiful and the disturbing rendered with a precise technique and modern mindset can lead the casual observer to mistake him for a provocateur. The greater narrative in this work\, however\, relates to an understanding of the truth that is revealed in the interaction between materials\, form\, and gesture. In this revelation\, strength may be cast in disposable plastics while fragile subtle elements are embodied in steel.

SUMMARY:STRANGE FAMILIARS Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:My paintings combine traditional techniques and materials with formal design. The work puts the illusion of representational painting against the reality of the material and the painting as an object. This duality is also seen in the mixing of contemporary and ancient subject matter found in my work. The visual themes focus on the subjects of history\, myth\, and mortality
