SUMMARY:Walking Tour: Washington Street
DESCRIPTION:Let us take you for a walking tour through one of Beverly’s most fascinating historic streets\, where architecture\, maritime history\, neighborhood life\, and industry all meet. \nLaid out in 1803 as one of Beverly’s early roads leading toward the water\, Washington Street tells the story of a changing city. Once bordered by open land and fish-drying yards\, the street grew into a neighborhood shaped by captains and mariners\, tradespeople\, shoe workers\, prominent families\, and generations of residents who made their homes there. \nFrom Greek Revival homes to Victorian-era residences\, Washington Street offers a layered view of Beverly’s growth from working waterfront town to historic neighborhood. Along the way\, we’ll explore the people\, industries\, homes\, and stories that shaped the street’s character\, while also considering its place near Beverly’s beautiful Gold Coast and the waterfront landscapes that helped define the city’s history.

SUMMARY:Broadway Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Explore one of Beverly’s most architecturally and historically significant neighborhoods during the Broadway Walking Tour. \nPerched atop Stevens Hill\, Broadway developed during the mid-19th century as one of Beverly’s premier residential streets\, connecting Cabot Street to Park Street near the railroad corridor. The neighborhood experienced substantial growth in the decades following the Civil War and became home to many of Beverly’s prominent residents\, business leaders\, and civic figures. \nThis guided walking tour will explore the history\, architecture\, and stories behind the homes and people who shaped the area. Along the way\, participants will encounter a fascinating cast of historical figures\, including an organ builder\, Civil War veterans\, and even an Olympic gold medalist. The tour will also include nearby Milton Street\, the original entrance to Broadway and an important part of the neighborhood’s early development. \nParticipants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking shoes and come prepared for an evening stroll through one of Beverly’s most distinctive historic landscapes.
