Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do? Share your passions for your business, initiative, organization.
I’ve always loved watching movies and TV and as I’ve gotten older I’ve become invested in the technical and creative side of production.
It was during a brief high school elective class that I first held a camera and had experience with a full editing suite. It was then that I started to learn the power of creating a story through creative image. Although I intended to focus on “business” in college, my passion became more focused and I gained considerable knowledge in film and video and widened my hands-on experiences.
I had every intention of working in the field for some company when just starting out until I sat and talked with a college alumni who started and ran his own film company. His words, “Just go out and make videos,” was the catalyst I need to start my own video production company. I now have complete control of the work I put out under my own company name.
What role do you think your business plays in supporting a more creative community? OR your community in general. (Bonus! Why do you think a more creative community is important?)
While only one eye can look through a lens at at time, what is seen through the lens once the record button is pushed is generally a collaborative efforts of several minds with different perspectives. It’s my job to bring someone’s product, business, life story into motion in a way that moves the viewer and tells a story more than just one photo can.
Working with a “creative community” always will result in a product very different than one dictated by a bunch of individuals more concerned about the bottom line.
What was the last book you read or film you watched that made an impact on you?
I am always watching videos for inspiration but one of the best videos that I’ve seen was a very simplistic cinematic commercial with its use of a single drone shot, use of voiceover (no on screen actors), subtitles, sound design and aspect ratio to capture the viewer’s attention.
It immediately appeals to one’s emotion in use of situational narrative. It doesn’t feel like a commercial where someone is selling a product until the end when you realize they are touting the benefits of an Apple Watch.
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you our your business?
Watching a video without sound feels empty. One, if not the most important aspect to any video, is sound. I work with an original composer for all my videos so I never use the same music track twice and never use any music from a stock site.
Working with a composer elevates each video I produce and enables us to fit the tone and mood of every video. Creatively, this is ideal and unique to my business.
