In your words… Tell us about your organization, business, initiative.
Our vision for Midnight Teas(e) is to create a witchcraft-centric tea house and dry venue space. We’re starting as an online retailer and hope to eventually open a brick-and-mortar shop in Salem, MA. Midnight Teas(e) will offer a delicious, casual, occult-informed tea experience by day, and transform into a dry venue space for everything from Drag to Metal Yoga to Burlesque by night.

Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do? Share your passions for your business, initiative, organization.
We are best friends who have bonded over tea for more than a decade. We want to share of love of tea with the world, as well as our interest in practices like herbalism and tarot. Our hope is that Midnight Teas(e) will become a regular stop for tea enthusiasts, an authentic resource for practicing witches, and a fun, welcoming nightlife destination.

What role do you think your business plays in supporting a more creative community? OR your community in general. (Bonus! Why do you think a more creative community is important?)
Midnight Teas(e) will support the creative community in two ways: First, we would like to eventually hire local artists to illustrate the branding for some of our tea blends. Second, as a dry and LGBTQ+ friendly event space, we hope to create a place that is more open to more people where artists, dancers, and teachers can be creative and share their passion with the world. There aren’t many spaces where people who don’t drink alcohol can go to have a fun time without the pressure or awkwardness of being “the person drinking water.” Dry event spaces are gradually becoming more common, and what better way to enjoy a spooky burlesque show than with a Rooibos Mocktail?

What was the last book you read OR What was the last video you watched that made an impact on you?
The New Tea Companion. The world of tea is vast and complex and filled with fascinating history, chemistry, and biology. There is always more to learn. It seems like every day we learn something new about tea. From where it’s grown to when it’s harvested to how it’s treated and steeped, a thousand tiny details affect a tea’s quality, aroma, look, feel, and taste.

What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you our your business?
We compliment each others’ tea tasting abilities pretty well. Emilie hates the taste of chocolate and loves black tea, while Maureen generally dislikes black tea and prefers Oolongs. As a result, Maureen has to taste all the chocolate blends. Oh nooo…
