In your words… Tell us about your organization, business, initiative.
One Broadway Collaborative is a Collaborative Music and Arts Workspace and Venue for Music, Open Mic nights, Local artists displayed on the walls, cooperative songwriting nights, and much more! Our goal is to give all artists a place to gather, network, and make and show all types of art.
Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do? Share your passions for your business, initiative, organization.
For many years, I have been working within the music community throughout New England to provide a way for artists to receive support, publicity, and work with other artists to expand the way they make music and art. My own background is in Instructional Design and Educational Technology and Training, but I have always played music and have a passion for spending my days helping others make music and art.
What role do you think your business plays in supporting a more creative community? OR your community in general. (Bonus! Why do you think a more creative community is important?)
My business exists to help artists communicate to others, both within their art form, and with their audiences or potential audiences. By creating this space, I hope to attract artists who wish to know how to be seen and heard by others.
What was the last book you read or film you watched that made an impact on you?
The Premonition by Michael Lewis was the last book that really made me think. It is a recounting of the actions of several scientists and government figures at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. The book was powerful because it demonstrates that through determination and a belief in one’s own abilities, great tasks can be accomplished. The book also demonstrates the impact of failures of leadership.
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you our your business?
One Broadway Collaborative is at the heart of a budding arts and artisan community. The mill building in which I am housed is next to several recording studios, artist studios, glass blowers, knife makers, and is growing daily. Lawrence, Massachusetts is having an arts renewal and explosion of creativity.
