In your own words, tell us about your business, organization, or initiative.
Three Sisters is a nonprofit organization and 6-acre farm based in Ipswich and Wenham, serving food-insecure neighbors across 18 Essex County cities and towns. Using sustainable agriculture as a platform for change, we seek to work collaboratively to build community, share resources, and grow a more equitable local food system.
Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do. Share your passions for your business, organization, or initiative.
We are the only production-scale farm on the North Shore with a food access mission: our primary focus is growing and distributing local food for neighbors who otherwise could not afford it. We offer free weekly produce shares, accept SNAP, and offer sliding-scale pricing and payment plans to make our farm’s produce as accessible as possible to people of all incomes and circumstances. Using intensive and sustainable farming methods, our farm produces between 40,000-50,000 pounds of fresh produce each year.
More than 70% of all our farm’s produce goes directly to low-income neighbors in 2 primary ways: through our mixed-income Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs, and via a network of partner organizations. We currently farm 4 acres of leased land in Ipswich and are adding 2 acres in Wenham in 2025.
