Meet Jeannette Mitton-Coleman of Ember Eye Photography. Jeannette blends her passions as a photographer, clinical social worker, Reiki Master Teacher, and administrator to empower others and foster creative self-expression.
Jeannette's unique gift lies in her ability to utilize her therapeutic training, leveraging it to create transformative opportunities for individuals, youth, and families within the community. By imparting the skills of photography, she enables them to embark on a journey of self-discovery, healing, self-expression, and personal empowerment.
What are Participatory Photography Projects?
Jeannette, who is also a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), does participatory photography projects using a form of the internationally recognized methodology called “Photovoice”. This methodology enables individuals, groups and communities to represent themselves, their perspectives and creates tools for advocacy and communication. Jeannette mainly works youth, adults and families in the greater Salem community at her private practice, local community based programs and schools.
