Her writing explores themes of connection\, community\, and healing. Her work sits at the intersection of social justice and science fiction\, acknowledging the transformative potential of both. As the author of the influential works “Emergent Strategy” and “Pleasure Activism\,” brown emphasizes the importance of collective action and imagination in creating a more just world.​ \nKarina Puente (she/her) creates paintings\, drawings\, and contemporary “papel picado” textile installations. Guided by the legacy of her great-grandmother\, a seamstress for Indigenous communities\, Karina’s work explores identity\, reflecting her vibrant Latina heritage and her connection to the Santa Ynez Valley in California\, where she was raised. Each piece is a whisper of intuition and an expression of the divine. \nAdria Arch (she/her) has a deeply physical practice where the studio becomes her playground—part dance floor\, part wrestling mat\, part science lab. Her work\, channeling the Pattern and Decoration Movement\, asserts sensual\, decorative\, and traditionally feminine aesthetics that become an act of resistance against systems that seek to control and diminish women’s voices. \nKate Holcomb Hale (she/her) crafts objects that embody care\, loss\, and resilience. Her collapsing ladders and knotted handrails reveal the fragility of our society’s support systems. Through sewing\, she makes rigid materials pliable\, and her color palette\, which is inspired by bruising\, suggests both grief and healing. Her installations encourage empathy\, prompting viewers to move through spaces with greater sensitivity. \nCOMMUNITY CONNECTION \nWithin the exhibition\, visitors will find a space to sit and respond to the prompt: Write the world you want to live in into existence. At this “creation station\,” the community is invited to respond expansively through writing\, drawing\, and sewing. Visitors are welcome to leave their contributions in the space to be displayed. \nManoski hopes the exhibition fosters connection\, imagination\, and healing. SUMMARY:Open Call: Assemblage
DESCRIPTION:This first exhibition comes as we near the end of construction. The studio will be plastered but not painted\, and things will still be a little rough. To celebrate this stage of the journey and take advantage of this unique\, unfinished atmosphere\, Airtight Garage is calling for work from seven to ten North Shore and Massachusetts artists. The exhibition will be a spatial assemblage mixing site specific work alongside other mixed media. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSend us your sculptures\, paintings\, and art work that deals with or inhabits space. Hanging work is welcome\, as are text based works\, sound works\, etc. Depending on the proposal\, we may be able to subsidize the production costs of site specific work\, including built-in or painted pieces. The space is approximately 18.5′ x 13′  or around 240 square feet with a slightly slanted ceiling\, 14′ at the lowest point. \n​ \n​All selected artists will be compensated with $100 and reimbursement for reasonable travel costs\, and all artists must be commit to attending the opening\, which will either be on Friday\, May 8th or Saturday\, May 9th. Installation or site specific artwork creation will take place between May 1st and 7th. \n​ \n We are located less than ten minutes walking from the Salem train station\, and can arrange for transportation from the station if there are any accessibility issues or facilitate carpooling or shared transport with other artists in your area. Airtight Garage located on the first floor with a small ramp\, and is wheelchair accessible. \n​ \nPlease feel free to email with any questions\, submissions close on April 10th. \n\nsubmit your work or proposal\n\n\n\n\n\nShare this Post
