It’s almost ArtWeek North of Boston and the North Shore is buzzing with events and happenings. ArtWeek starts this Friday, April 26 and lasts until Sunday, May 5.
The Boch Center launched ArtWeek in 2013 as a means to strengthen its role of the arts in the local community and the creative economy. Since then, the festival has caught on and there are events all over the region, not just in Boston, but on the North Shore too.

Salem Arts Festival Fashion Show

Join us for an evening of fashion, fun, food, and MORE in support of one of Salem’s greatest festivals! For the 6th year in a row, we will be showcasing fabulous looks that display the amazing variety and versatility of the fashion options that can be found in Salem. Attendees can expect fantastic outside-the-box 33 accouterments and surprises on the catwalk from local creative genius Grace & Diggs as well as other local makers.
Can’t wait for the festival? Enjoy an exclusive sneak peek during our cocktail hour. In addition to an advanced preview of a unique public art project, guests will get the chance to contribute with mini maker stations. Lighting and ambiance by Retonica will completely transform the historic hall throughout the night. Karen Scalia of Salem Food Tours returns as the mastermind behind fashion show logistics and staging, and with festival co-organizers Salem Main Streets and Creative Collective at the helm, locals know it’s going to be an incredible night. ArtWeek at Galleries at Lynn Arts
Artisan’s Fair in the Galleries at GALA

During the 2nd Annual Food Truck & Music Festival at Ironbound Marketplace, the public can tour the murals in the LynnArts building created by local artists and Lynn Public Schools students. There will also be the opportunity to visit GALA Artists and Makers in the Galleries At LynnArts and extending into the spaces along Mt Vernon St. Artists will be demo-ing and selling artwork during this event. The Galleries will have original, locally created arts and crafts by North Shore artists. Visit our New Gallery Shop and see various studio artists in their creative spaces.
Mosaic Sidewalk Crack Project
Sunday, April 28 – 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Cost: Free
During this pop-up art event find Lynn Tech vocational students and artists Annette Sykes mending the broken sidewalks of the Downtown Lynn Cultural District! They will be applying mastic and tiles, broken ceramics and other found objects to repair and highlight the cracks in the sidewalk. Happen upon the artists as they are working and see this incredible project in progress as they bring art in people’s everyday lives.
Afterwards, find the bits of color left in the sidewalk cracks, enhancing something otherwise unnoticed!
Life Drawing at Pick Up Modern

Join the GALA (Galleries At LynnArts) Life Drawing Group at the Pick Up Modern Store at 68 Exchange St LynnMA. The model will be clothed and posed in the eclectic retail space. Bring your own art supplies and a drop cloth if you’d like to paint. Easels provided. $12 fee.

Eleanor Fisher Methods and Materials Demo

Solo exhibitor Eleanor Fisher will demonstrate how she incorporates mixed media and texture techniques into her glass shard paintings. This will be an interactive demonstration with opportunities for attendees to try out Eleanor’s methods and materials.
Architecture as Art – King Hooper Mansion Tour

A special interactive tour and walk through the c.1729-30 and c.1747-50 Marblehead mansion of 18th c.merchant ship-owner Robert “King” Hooper and his family, from cellar kitchen to high-style 18th c. rooms and early 19th c. neoclassical fourth-floor ballroom, with a focus on the range of architectural artistry and craftsmanship in the mansion, which has been owned by the Marblehead Arts Association for more than 80 years.
John Singleton Copley in Marblehead

A special illustrated talk about nearly two dozen portraits painted by John Singleton Copley of men, women, and children of Marblehead, Massachusetts in the mid-1700s. Copley was the most celebrated artist of colonial America’s pre-Revolutionary period when the town was the sixth most populous metropolis in British North America, and (surprisingly!) the second largest in Massachusetts after Boston.
The talk will be held in the actual home of the family for whom more than half of those portraits were painted, now owned by the Marblehead Arts Association. Images of the portraits will be shown (most are in a variety of museum collections around the country), and the complicated and compelling personal lives of their subjects will be discussed.
Beauport Art Show at Beauport Hotel Gloucester

Join us on Tuesday, April 30 for this special evening as we celebrate the talent of local artists at Beauport Hotel Gloucester during ArtWeek! Artists will be displaying their paintings, drawings, and photographs in our Beauport Ballroom which will be available to purchase. All sales directly support the artists and no admission fee will be charged for the public. Local artist Dan DeLouise will be “live-painting” a new work in the lobby area – spectators are welcome to watch and the new piece will be auctioned off at the end of the evening.
Color Your Own Chamberlain at Marblehead Museum

Tour picturesque Europe through the lens and brush of renowned local artist, Samuel Chamberlain (1895-1975), in our newest exhibit. Marblehead Museum will provide the colored pencils to bring a Chamberlain etching to life and bring the beauty home as a keepsake.
Instameet at the House of the Seven Gables

Bring your phone for an Instagrammers morning meetup event at The House of the Seven Gables in Salem. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to come behind the barriers of the rooms in our 350-year-old historic house and take unique pictures to share on your social media. This is a wonderful opportunity for those who love art, architecture, and history as well as photography. Limited space will be available for behind-the-scenes access with our talented staff.
Mandala Stones Drop-in Art Making at the Peabody Essex Museum

Join us for a special ArtWeek event! Meet artist Valerie Jaros, owner of StoneSpirations, and create an art rock. Jaros collects beach stones from the Cape Cod Bay and uses them as her canvas to create intensely colorful and intricate artworks entirely out of dots. The finished stones create a moment of meditative focus on nature. Learn about Jaros’ process and create your own mandala stone to take with you.
Vintage Neon & Street Art Tour at Beyond Walls

Tour Lynn’s downtown with Beyond Walls staff who will walk visitors through the vision, process, and execution of recent public art projects installed in the downtown area. Learn more about the internationally and locally renowned artists whose works in Lynn are not only bringing brightness and positivity to the cityscape but are huge and especially Instagram-worthy! On this twilight tour, we will check out “Lynn Lights” – our permanent, dynamic LED underpass lighting project, and “RetroLit” our
collection of publicly mounted vintage neons as well a selection of our 46 pieces of large scale street art.
transpARTation – Salem/Lynn/Swampscott

We’re activating transpARTation from station to station in this unique regional transit experience! Rush Hour can be enjoyable when you’re riding through waves of art. To kick off ArtWeek, we’ll put an artistic regional touch on the purple rail trail to give you a glimpse of what some of your favorite North Shore destinations have in store for you that week. Enjoy live music, watch paintings come together before your very eyes, and release your inner Picasso with the chance to create some art of your own on each commuter rail platform. Though our programs will cause you to veer off the tacks, art and transit continue to keep us connected
