About this Event

This free concert will feature the “Nabucco Overture” and “The Four Seasons” from Les vêpres siciliennes by Giuseppe Verdi. Also on the program is “Invitation to the Dance”, originally a piano piece by Carl Maria von Weber. In 1841, French composer Hector Berlioz orchestrated it so it could serve as a ballet sequence for a Paris Opera production of Weber’s opera Der Freischütz. Mary-Jo Grenfell conducts.

The Recital Hall is located at 71 Loring Avenue (Nancy Harrington Campus) on the ground floor of the Classroom Building. Free parking is available in the lot next to the Salem Diner.

The Summer Orchestra at Salem State University, conducted by Mary-Jo Grenfell, provides an enriching opportunity for musicians to read, rehearse, and perform music from the symphonic and chamber repertoire. The ensemble is a community orchestra comprised of intermediate and advanced musicians. The orchestra rehearses on Tuesday evenings from mid-July through early August
