Spring has sprung and Summer is just around the corner, come shake off the winter blues with the shops on Artists’ Row at our seasons’ grand opening Artists’ Row Market Day Launch Party!
On Saturday, May 1, 2021 Artists’ Row will come alive with activity! Starting at 10am visitors can meet local artists, see them in their natural habitat, participate in free hands-on art making activities, sign up for workshops, listen to some live tunes, grab a bite to eat and even do a bit of shopping! There is so much the shops on Artists’ Row have to offer!! Don a mask and come down for a visit.
ChagallPAC will offer up an eclectic array of handcrafted jewelry, fiber arts, poetry books, painting and so much more at their booth so passerby can get a taste of all this amazing collective of artists has to offer. Visitors will also be able to engage with a variety of COVID safe hands-on art making activities and musical performances. From 4-7pm the lively sounds of the Matt Savage Quartet will fill the Row.
The Chagall Performance Art Collaborative (Chagall PAC) is a community of artists committed to collaborating across disciplines and exploring the ways we experience art. We believe art is never the same in any given moment, but rather evolving and continually being shaped by the imaginations of those who come into contact with it. We create performances that involve audience participation and expand to the newest reaches of contemporary performance art. ChagallPac is located in Unit 1 on Artists’ Row. They are currently open Fridays 12-6pm and Saturdays & Sundays 10am-6pm. Following the kick-off party in May, the shop will be open every weekday 12-6pm and weekends 10am-6pm. Beverly Bees will roll out a table where visitors can learn about bees and how to help them by planting a bee friendly garden; view honeybees at work in their observation hive; and peruse a wide variety of hand made locally harvested beeswax candles and gifts. They will also have their own raw honey, native bee houses and supplies and bee friendly organic seeds and plants available to purchase.
Beverly Bees is located on Artists’ Row in Unit 2. They offer handmade beeswax candles, award winning honey and bee skin care from their very own bees! Watch them make candles in hundreds of shapes and designs from pillars, tapers, votives, pumpkins, skulls, wolves, dragons, witches, zombies and more! Get delicious local raw honey fresh from the hive to tantalize your taste buds or handmade beeswax lip balms, lotions, and salves to delight your skin, and smell the sweet honey aroma of their handmade beeswax candles as they burn. Learn about bees, beekeeping, bee removal, how to help save bees and so much more. You can even view live bees in the shop’s observation hive as a fun bonus! They are currently open Thursdays & Fridays 12-5pm, Saturday & Sundays 11am-5pm. Starting in May they will be open Wednesdays thru Fridays 12-5pm and Saturday & Sundays 11am-5pm. Shindig!, along with visiting artist Jim Motta of Wicked Kreations by Jim, will be setting up an expanded version of their shop including more upcycled, artist-embellished oddities, antiques, one of a kind fashion, patches, pins and more!

“Everyone Explores” with artist Malorie Landgreen, our newly appointed Public Artist in Residence for 2021 in Unit 5 on Artists’ Row, will kick off their residency and participate in this May Day Market with two different activities hands on art making activities: One quick option for those on the go where participants can make a doodle to reflect their mood that day or for those looking to loose themselves in a project for a bit there is a more complex option where participants can create small sculptures out of Sculpey clay. All works produced in these workshops have the opportunity to be incorporated into one of many experiential art installations that will be taking place as part over the next 8 months of the artist’s residency. Artists’ Row is at the heart of the City, centrally located in historic downtown Salem at 24 New Derby St., across from Old Town Hall and Derby Square. It was originally built as a marketplace and continues to be a thriving public plaza and pedestrian way.
