Meet the Maker is a new series of features highlighting some of the most amazing makers across the North Shore! We will be featuring a handful of new makers every Monday to hopefully help mitigate the added financial strain that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to the creative community. Follow along on Instagram and Facebook as well!

In your own words…  what do you do? Describe the thing(s) you “make/create.”

I hand-make bags, wallets, house shoes, baby booties, and other accessories out of reclaimed leather from a local sneaker factory. Each piece is unique, with a focus on unexpected, yet sophisticated colors and finishes.

The world is curious — what inspires you to “make/create”?

I have always had a strong passion for making things. It’s the best thing in the world!

I have been a footwear designer for a couple of large companies for over ten years, and while seeing my own designs go into production is a thrilling experience (a few of my designs have been made into over a million pairs each!), it does not compare to the experience of making something for myself.

Roughly how much are you expecting in losses over the next month?

There will be some loss, pretty much at least half of my business, however, this business is just a side project (for now!).

What measures are you taking to reduce lost revenues?

I am about to launch a new design that I think will actually be helpful for those women working from home. Trying to turn this into somewhat of an opportunity to solve a problem.

What do you think could help everyone in this challenging time?

Support of all kinds – even just kind words – and fellow makers banding together and getting the word out there about what they are making. We could all help to get the word out there about each other’s work (like you are doing here!).
