Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do. Share your passions for your business, organization, or initiative.
My name is Sara Jane Kurpeski, and I am a craft hairstylist and owner of Moon Baby Hair Salon. It was extremely important to me to open up a safe space for clients to express themselves through hair, while offering that same support to other people in the industry. Opening Moon Baby was always a dream of mine. I knew that to get where I wanted to be in our industry, I was going to have to create a space of my own, so that I could offer what I was seeking in my own career to other hairstylists in the form of continued support, leadership, sustainability and growth.
We also source vegan-friendly and cruelty-free products and color lines, as well as clean and sustainable brands. We are part of the Green Circles Salon Program, where we can now recycle 96% of salon waste.
Sustainability, support and creativity are things that make Moon Baby a unique and welcoming space for all.
What is the last thing you read, watched, or listened to that had an impact on you?
I love doing extensive research on our industry and how quickly it can change. A lot of it is extremely interesting and helpful when it comes to keeping a business and its team thriving.
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you or your business?
I’m a huge horror and sci-fi fanatic. One of my favorite classic monsters is the wolf man and werewolves, and a “Moon Baby” is essentially a furry, ethereal being, who comes alive under a full moon.
