In your words… Tell us about your organization, business, initiative.

I make super fun, bright, and bold jewelry using polymer clay and resin. Each piece I make is unique and has been called “mini wearable art.” I enjoy what I do so much and keep the creation process fun and near and dear to my heart.

Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do? Share your passions for your business, initiative, organization.

I love creating. I always have. My family had one or more art projects covering at least one of the surfaces in our home for the length of my childhood. I helped my mother with her own jewelry business, learned to sew, paint, draw, and explored all mediums.

Though I’ve continued to create in many ways as an adult – writing, poetry, received my Master’s in Dance/Movement Therapy – it wasn’t until I found polymer clay that I realized I could turn my passion for creating into a business. I therefore make whatever I am drawn to make and am still blown away to this day that people love it.

What role do you think your business plays in supporting a more creative community? OR your community in general. (Bonus! Why do you think a more creative community is important?)

I’ve always wanted to be part of a creative community. I did not go to art school and always loved the idea of being constantly surrounded by creative folks. I am so excited to be a part of this community and share my ideas and beliefs and creativity with others. I hope my work plays a part in inspiring others to make what they feel drawn to make, and to taking risks surrounding their art. I never thought I’d be able to have a business surrounding something I love so much and feel very grateful.

As a mother of three naturally very creative children, I feel a more creative community is important for encouraging ourselves and the next generations to express themselves. A more creative community brings beauty, excitement, and potential to everyone involved. Everyone has innate creativity, and our culture/society/many factors can so easily stamp it out of us. I want to be part of a place that is fostering the growth of expression, creativity, and acceptance.

What was the last book you read or film you watched that made an impact on you?

Shoot. The Crying Book by Heather Christle (she’s a poet and this book was a dedication to “all the places she’s ever cried”. It dealt with humanity, depression, parenting, and poetry. It was stunning and I re-read many of the passages).

But also I am currently reading Expecting Adam by Martha Beck and it’s influencing me greatly. She writes of her time while pregnant thirty years ago with a child with Down Syndrome and how this child has taught her more than anything or one else in her life. Powerful $hit.

What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you our your business?

I was in the Peace Corps in Costa Rica and spent most of my 20s traveling the world. The colors used in art across the world have certainly influenced the pieces I make.
