At our heart, we are an OG Dive Bar, we’ve been serving the good people of Salem since the 1970s here in Derby Square.
In recent decades we’ve added quality comfort food, fresh seafood and scratch made ingredients throughout our menu. We’ve got a great lineup of specialty cocktails and a hard-working crew to serve you. We are a true meritocracy, so if you earn Rowdy Regular status, you’re part of our family.

The Lobster Shanty was featured on an episode of Diners, Drive-ins & Dives hosted by Guy Fieri on the Food Network. Our show was titled Wings, Dogs & Claws. The menu items featured were the Pulled Pork, Guinness Marinated Steak Tips & the Lobstertini.
The Shanty was selected as a Hidden Jewel by the Phantom Gourmet.
Billy Costa’s TV Diner on NECN featured our Wicked Spicy Crab Cake in an episode.
We were also visited by Mike Wendt and the crew of Wicked Bites on NESN, where they explored our drinks and enjoyed a Lobster Roll and a Millionaire Burger.In the Autumn of 2022 we were part of Salem’s episode of Man vs. Food on the Cooking Channel. Casey Webb successfully ate the Super Nova Scotia seafood platter and won a special Lobster Shanty bib. He also enjoyed a lobster martini.
We are a seasonal restaurant because we have a seasonal liquor license. We close on January 15th and re-open on April 1st. Were closed for 10 short weeks a year. Yes, we are open after Halloween.
Although we are just a tiny shanty, we do our best to buy locally, recycle everything we can and compost all of our organic waste. In an effort to reduce our plastic waste, our straws, souffle cups, and take out flatware are all compostable. Our take out containers are also recyclable or compostable.
