The Castle: A Board Game Cafe

About the Member

The Castle started as an idea of Ryn and Kevin Grant while they were attending college on the north shore. They wanted a place for everyone to feel welcome to spend time hanging out and building a community.

After they graduated and were married, they remembered the fun times they had in their dorms, playing tabletop games with their friends. With that idea in mind started the process of making The Castle- the first board game cafe in the north shore.

A New Type of Business

The Castle is unique for the North Shore, and board gaming in a cafe setting is a business model that’s virtually never been seen before, but it’s part of a giant wave that’s been gathering steam in the rest of the world.

Board Game Cafes are exactly what they sound like, and The Castle is no different. We are a place where you can grab a coffee, some snacks, maybe a sandwich, and then peruse our library of hundreds of board games available to play. The Castle is meant to be a place where anyone can come in for a relaxing and great time, all the while enjoying delicious food and drinks.

At the very core, The Castle is a restaurant, with a full array of beer, wine and mixed drinks, a menu for lunch, dinner, and every time in between, and a huge selection of coffee, tea, latte and desserts. Since we are full serve, you won’t have to interrupt your game as food and drink will be brought right to your table.

Even though we are a full restaurant, we are a restaurant all about board games. So if board gaming is your hobby, your passion, or something you’ve never tried before but what to learn more about, The Castle is the place for you. With over 800 board games and a labeling system that helps you choose from the easiest to the most complex, you can always find what you want to play.

Our library is divided into genres, so each shelf will introduce you to new styles of game. Challenging strategy, cooperative, classic and party games are some of the many types of games we have available. On each game is a sticker with a color which tells a little bit about the complexity of the game, so if you’re looking for a light, casual game you should stick to the green stickers and stay away from the reds! Red stickers warn you that the game is a heavy one, a lot of depth awaits you in those games, and you’re sure to be caught of in the intrigue and strategy of those games for hours at a time!

If its a night out with a date or your BFF, our games that are perfectly suited for 2 players have blue stickers as well as the complexity stickers, so look out for those!
