A hand holds a Polaroid photo showing a tree-lined canal—an example of photography capturing a moment in time. The background matches the Polaroid image, depicting the same canal, trees, and grassy area under a clear blue sky.

About this Event

This course is designed to expose young makers to photography and motion using tools they can easily understand. This series is focused on allowing kids to view their world in a new way, introducing compositional, conceptual and technical concepts using cyanotype, scanners, Polaroid cameras and point-and-shoot film cameras. The series will conclude in a community gallery show where students will display their work alongside other Salt Studio cohorts for their family and friends.

There is no need for students to have a digital camera or computer. Students will use studio digital cameras for creation of digital negatives for our cyanotype lessons.

This series is taught by Alice Rouse, Creative Director and Owner of Salt Studio + Shop. Alice has her BLA in Landscape Architecture and her MFA in Graphic Design. She has taught all ages from little ones to college students. Her favorite medium is Cyanotype and she’s a sucker for neon green (duh)! Alice has 2 kiddos of her own who sometimes make guest appearances in our studio programming.
