About this Event

Built in 1727 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Ropes Mansion is recognized as one of New England’s most significant historic structures. Fans of the 1993 movie Hocus Pocus will recognize it as Allison’s house. Its decorations and furnishings reflect a renovation by sisters Sarah, Mary and Eliza Ropes in the 1890s. Visitors can explore the mansion at their own pace with PEM Guides on hand to answer questions. Timed entries at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour. Last entry at 3:15 pm. Please arrive 10 minutes before your entry time. The Ropes Mansion Garden is open every day from dawn to dusk and is free to visit. Not wheelchair accessible – visitors must use stone steps to enter and exit. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the Admissions desk at 161 Essex Street.
