About this Event
The Salem Art Gallery is seeking artwork inspired by the historical concept of Witch Hunts and moral panics. Any work of qualifying media exploring themes of fear, persecution, and societal hysteria will be considered for this exhibit.
A Witch Hunt is a campaign directed against a person or group holding unorthodox or unpopular views. “The Satanic Panic was a period lasting from the early 1980s to the mid-1990s characterized by a series of modern-day witch trials. “Satan hunters,” emboldened by the rise of the New Right in 1980, persecuted hundreds of day care operators. Their actions propelled a Satanic conspiracy theory into the cultural mainstream and has had a lasting impact on conservative politics….Satanic conspiracism created a type of political capital that the New Right exploited to other its enemies and advance its causes.” (Source: https://digitalcommons.memphis.edu/etd/3521/) As we enter a new era of conspiracy and fear, this exhibit is more appropriate than ever.
If your artwork is chosen you will have the opportunity to display and sell your work in the Salem Art Gallery located within the Satanic Temple HQ. Upon acceptance, you will receive a consignment agreement/artist contract that you should read through before signing. Chosen Artwork will be on display November 16th 2026-March 15th 2027.
