In your own words, tell us about your business, organization, or initiative.
Moonrise Fae & Court of Cryptids are two connected performance troupes comprised of faeries, mermaids, mushroom folk, satyrs, fauns, and other fabulous creatures. We are magical entertainers for humans of all ages available for bookings and customized performances at private and public events of all sorts. If you’re looking to sprinkle a bit of magic or faerie dust into something you’re planning we’re here to help you out.
You can find us at arts festivals, circuses, private birthday parties and celebrations, drag shows, traditional theatre, and in film and media.
Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do. Share your passions for your business, organization, or initiative.
I am an interdisciplinary artist and performer who found the door into faerie in 2015 and never quite came back. I do this because I love bringing delight to under-activated spaces. I also do this because I love giving weirdos of all backgrounds a chance to perform and be celebrated. Adding color and joy and intrigue and curiosity to whatever venue we’re in is something that gives me a lot of purpose.
When I was a kid I lived largely in a dreamworld and thought that as I grew up I would need to smoosh that part of myself. Now, my entire world is pretty magical. And I get to teach that to kids too. Yes, of course you can grow up to work in an office…or you can get really good at twirling a hoop and dancing and that’s a career too.
As a queer, transgender, disabled, and neurodivergent fae being…the normal life was never going to be an option for me.
What is the last thing you read, watched, or listened to that had an impact on you?
I will be re-reading Becky Chamber’s A Psalm for the Wild-Built forever and always. Themes of chosen family and avoiding burn out in the softest, sweetest prose…it’s like honey for the soul.
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you or your business?
That it exists to begin with.
