In your own words, tell us about your business, organization, or initiative.
Witch City Wicks creates high-end soy wax candles that enhance decor and quality of life influenced by a darker aesthetic and eccentric style. All of our products are petroleum-free, cruelty-free, phthalate-free, and 100% vegan. Each of our products are hand-poured and labeled by our team in-house.
I started Witch City Wicks as a one-person home business and Etsy shop back in 2011 and it’s grown into a small team creating and producing collections in the Witchcraft Heights area of Salem, Massachusetts. In 2017, we opened our retail location in the heart of downtown Salem, located directly next door to the amazing Moonbaby Hair Salon (owned by my sister Sara Jane).
We strive to offer a welcoming shopping experience, blending our candle creations with carefully curated home, lifestyle and gift selections. We want our visitors to be surrounded by great-smelling candles, finely crafted goods and lovely decor.
What is the last thing you read, watched, or listened to that had an impact on you?
Last summer I took a Tony Robbins workshop and it really motivated me to be a better business owner and leader. It helped me identify areas in which I was succeeding and ways that I could improve running the business.
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you or your business?
I think people would be surprised to learn how small our team actually is! We have less than 10 people on staff between our shop and production studio. Our team works incredibly hard!
