On January 3, a crowd gathered at Salem Willows to witness the 17th Annual Christmas Tree Bonfire. Each year, the Salem Fire Department stand by on Dead Horse Beach while the festive spruces go up in a blazing inferno. The blaze was fueled by trees left curbside during designated pickup times, and by those who brought their trees early to the actual event, sans ornaments of course.
Visitors, when they weren’t standing by the barricade enjoying the warmth, drank hot chocolate and cider from Root Salem.
Expecting it to be a sight worth seeing, Salem’s Satan also paid a visit. Some demons just like to sit and watch the world burn.
