Salem Jazz and Soul Festival
The
Project
The Salem Jazz and Soul Festival is a volunteer-run nonprofit with a big public mission: produce free concerts, support music education, and keep Salem Willows’ jazz history alive. Its board owns that mission, the music, the fundraising, and the relationships that have sustained the festival since 2007.
What the organization needed was additional capacity around the work surrounding the stage. Creative Collective joined the festival through a clearly defined support contract covering website management, digital marketing, and vendor-market management.
The boundary matters. Creative Collective does not own the festival, program its music, or solicit its sponsors. It gives the festival team professional systems and delivery in three specific lanes so the volunteer organization can stay focused on its mission.

Actions
Creative Collective’s work connects the festival’s year-round mission to a clear public experience:
- Manages and updates the festival website, creating a dependable public home for schedules, news, volunteer information, donation pathways, and year-round programming.
- Runs coordinated digital marketing for the annual festival and the concerts, fundraisers, and announcements that build momentum before August.
- Manages the artisan marketplace, including vendor outreach, applications, curation, communication, and market-day coordination.
- Produces professional event photography and on-site content that the nonprofit can continue using after festival day.
- Protects role clarity: the festival board retains programming, fundraising, sponsorship, governance, and the larger event operation.
The result is not an outsourced festival. It is a stronger organization with professional support exactly where it needs it.
Impact
- Earned a second-year contract renewal, demonstrating that the defined support model delivered continuing value to the festival organization.
- Supported the 2026 festival's public website and digital communications for a free, eight-hour day of music and education at Salem Willows.
- Managed a curated 2026 marketplace featuring more than 25 local makers from across New England.
- Promoted at least four festival concerts, fundraisers, and community programs in the lead-up to the 2026 main event.
- Established a repeatable support model that adds professional marketing and market management without blurring ownership of programming, fundraising, or sponsorship.
This partnership is a useful alternative to the all-or-nothing event model. A community organization does not need to surrender its identity or institutional knowledge to gain professional capacity. It needs the right partner, a clear scope, and honest boundaries.
The Salem Jazz and Soul Festival owns its mission and its stage. Creative Collective strengthens the systems that help people find it, understand it, and participate in it. That clarity is what made the partnership renewable.
Good partnership makes every role stronger.
