The creative sector faces unprecedented opportunities and significant threats in today’s challenging economic climate. With strained government budgets, making decisions about public investments is increasingly complex, and this year demands action. As community builders and economic drivers, creative professionals are essential to the vitality of Massachusetts communities, yet our sector often struggles for the recognition and support it deserves.

That’s why Creative Collective is proud to announce our participation in the 2025 Creative Sector Advocacy Day at the Massachusetts State House on Wednesday, April 30th.

The Power of Collective Advocacy

Massachusetts ranks as the third most arts-vibrant state in the nation, with a creative economy that generates billions in economic activity and supports tens of thousands of jobs. Yet when budget decisions are made, creative initiatives are often first on the chopping block.

Creative Sector Day at the State House is organized in partnership with MASSCreative and other statewide arts and cultural groups, whose mission aligns perfectly with Creative Collective’s values. MASSCreative partners with Massachusetts residents, artists, creative and culture workers, and local arts leaders to attract the attention and resources necessary for the creative community to lead in the Commonwealth. They believe in the value of creativity, access and participation, collaboration, and civic engagement—principles Creative Collective champions daily in our work across Essex County and the North Shore.

As Creative Collective, we’ve witnessed firsthand how our members—artists, entrepreneurs, and small business owners—transform communities through their work. From revitalizing downtown spaces to creating inclusive cultural events, our creative professionals aren’t just making art—they’re building community infrastructure.

Why Business Leaders Should Care

The creative economy isn’t separate from the broader business ecosystem—it’s an essential component of it. When creative businesses thrive:

  • Commercial districts become destinations
  • Property values increase
  • Talent attraction and retention improve
  • Tourism dollars flow into communities
  • Cross-sector innovation flourishes

This is why Creative Collective is leveraging our network to ensure strong representation from Essex County and the North Shore at this critical advocacy event.

What to Expect at Creative Sector Day

The April 30th event (10 am-3 pm) at the State House offers multiple engagement opportunities:

  • Direct access to legislators and policymakers
  • Formal programming in the morning featuring key leadership
  • Professional networking with creative leaders from across the Commonwealth
  • Exhibitions and performances showcasing sector impact
  • Resources for effective advocacy

Last year’s event was a tremendous success, with over 30 compensated artists bringing energy and creativity to the State House—even engaging Lt. Governor Driscoll in song and dance. This year promises to be equally impactful, with opportunities for artists to receive $300 stipends to perform or exhibit (applications due April 1st).
