About Melt Ice Cream

Melt Ice Cream is a family-owned homemade ice cream shop located at 60 Washington Street in downtown Salem, Massachusetts. Since 2017, Melt has been making small-batch ice cream on site using real, local ingredients — no artificial dyes, no shortcuts, just genuinely good ice cream in a welcoming neighborhood shop. Furthermore, Melt is committed to being allergen-friendly, with gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut-free options clearly marked and careful protocols in place to minimize cross-contamination.

Our Story

Melt has built a loyal following in Salem by doing things the right way — making ice cream fresh in house, sourcing quality local ingredients, and creating a space where everyone feels welcome. Waffle cones are made daily, whipped cream is homemade, and the rotating flavor menu keeps things interesting year-round. Additionally, Melt goes beyond the scoop with catering services and a one-of-a-kind interactive program called The Ice Cream Experience for small groups.

Melt’s menu features a rotating selection of housemade flavors alongside a core lineup of classics. Current staples include:

• Indulgent — Cookie Dough, Oreo, Banana Nutella with Peanut Butter Cups, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Salty Peanut Butter Oreo
• Allergen Friendly — No Sugar Added Butter Pecan, Vegan Coconut, plus a rotating vegan flavor and rotating dairy-free sorbet

Allergen Friendly

Melt takes allergies seriously without overclaiming. Ice creams containing nuts are marked on the menu, gluten-free flavors are clearly labeled, and the team makes ice cream in a specific order and uses clean scoops from fresh tubs for guests with allergies. Melt does not add artificial dyes to any of its ice cream. Please let your scooper know about any food allergies before ordering.

Catering

Melt loves being part of events big and small. Catering options include custom flavor development, drop-off service, make-your-own sundae bars, float bars, ice cream sandwich setups, and full-service scooping. Moreover, Melt is happy to work with clients to create something truly unique for any occasion.

The Ice Cream Experience

The Ice Cream Experience is Melt’s signature interactive program — a one-of-a-kind, hands-on ice cream making session hosted right in the shop for groups of up to four people. Guests begin with a tasting of current flavors, then work alongside the Melt team to create a completely custom flavor from scratch. Along the way they learn about ice cream science and history, and leave with their creation ready to enjoy at home or serve at their event. Consequently, it is a memorable option for birthdays, bachelorette parties, date nights, and any occasion worth celebrating.
