Look up and discover the maritime stories behind Salem’s decorative figureheads. On this walking tour, Stephanie Clements introduces the “Ladies of Salem” that adorn lampposts along Essex and Derby streets. Learn how these public artworks recall the city’s seafaring past, and explore the connections between Salem’s streets, art, and maritime heritage.
Plan your visit
- When: Sundays, 3–4:30 p.m., through November 1, 2026.
- Meet: At the anchor in front of East India Marine Hall in Salem.
- Tickets: $40 per person; ages 10 and older.
- Route: Approximately one mile, rain or shine. The route is not fully wheelchair accessible; contact the organizer with access questions.
