In your words… Tell us about your organization, business, initiative

Cojuelos’ Productions proudly celebrates all artistic expression through creative and innovative, diverse and culturally-oriented programming and high-end special events. Cojuelos’ Productions thrives in creating curated experiences for private, corporate, and community settings with an emphasis in cultural & educational programming. In addition, we offer consulting services for effective community engagement, cultural awareness and audience development strategies with arts and culture as tools for engagement. Our company specifically focuses in creating a platform for elevating under-represented cultures and communities of color by promoting and managing creatives of color (musicians, visual artists, authors and performers) representing different cultural groups. We develop opportunities for showcasing their art, passion and creativity at the same time that we contribute to their professional growth and the growth of our communities. In collaboration with some of these artists, Cojuelos’ Productions also offers services of murals and installations for commercial and residential projects (restaurants, office parks, real estate developments) through a collective of the visual artists and designers we represent.

Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do? Share your passions for your business, initiative, organization.

I’ve always had a passion for the arts and for cultural heritage, specially after coming to this diverse country and being exposed to so much. I believe in the power of strengthening communities through civic engagement, economic opportunity, education and the pride of cultural identity; this has led me to several great educational and professional opportunities where I’ve acquired profound understanding of effective community engagement, community empowerment and education, through arts and culture program management with emphasis in under-represented communities of color; all this with the pleasure of collaborating with many amazingly talented creative minds. The positive transformations I’ve seen in individuals and entire communities has been inspiring and a motivator to continue my path. I’ve been referred to as a leader, activist, change agent, innovator, pioneer, for some of the things I’ve done… I feel I’m just a dreamer, who loves art and cultures, and is passionate about creating opportunities – specially for younger generations – for learning from each other, while empowering and engaging through the arts to create positive lasting impact and to make a difference in our communities; while at it, I want to contribute to create a leveled field for creatives of color to develop their careers in the arts.

What role do you think your business plays in supporting a more creative community? OR your community in general. (Bonus! Why do you think a more creative community is important?)

The role Cojuelos’ Productions plays in supporting a more creative community is, in part, by supporting diverse creatives of color through the development of opportunities for safely and openly showcasing their art, bringing them together to educate and inspire through the expression of their talents and cultural heritage. I firmly believe in creating a space where there are no more marginalized cultures and groups in the arts.

What was the last book you read OR What was the last video you watched that made an impact on you?

Michelle Obama’s Becoming is the last book I read, proving once more why representation matters so much, not only in the arts, but in all aspects of our lives; helping to seeing ourselves with the potential to achieve, empowering us to have a voice, to take risks and to fight for what ones believe is important.

What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you our your business?

I love sculpting and working with my hands, and I make fun, super detailed sculptured cakes! (for family only 🙂 )
