Tell us a bit about you and what you do?

Founded in 1956, MLT is one of the oldest operating community theaters in New England. We put on 4 mainstage shows in our regular season, and three mainstage shows in our summer season. We also have Children’s Theatre educational programs, and often host guest artists and performers in our space at the converted Firehouse on School Street in Marblehead.

What part of your job would you consider creative, and why do you enjoy that part of what you do?

Our community theater is comprised of directors, artists, producers, thespians, dancers, singers, instrumentalists, and so many more who give their time and energy to bring amazing art to Marblehead and the surrounding communities. We live to make art because it’s what we love to do.

How does your creative work contribute to the growth and stability of the Creative Economy?

Whether it’s hiring local talent to direct, music direct, choreograph, stage manage, or costume a show, or donating tickets, ad space, or items to other local arts organizations in the area, MLT believes in bolstering interest in the arts and providing support to one another!

What’s your favorite part of running/managing a local business?

Being local to the North Shore means that MLT draws talent, volunteers, and staff from a plethora of surrounding communities, and being situated in such a perfect part of Marblehead makes it easy and convenient for both our participants and patrons to visit local businesses and show support for the whole community.

What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you our your business?

We are a nonprofit organization and one of the oldest continually operating community theaters in New England
