In your words… Tell us about your organization, business, initiative.

Maritime is a beautiful commercial recording studio modeled after the iconic studios of the 1970’s like Electric Lady where musicians have the space and equipment to play together live in a highly creative environment. I built Maritime so our network of musicians and students have access to the best vintage gear and the latest technology in a space that is clean, comfortable, and inspiring. I teach private students and record everything from live jazz to voice over work for television.

What role do you think your business plays in supporting a more creative community? OR your community in general. (Bonus! Why do you think a more creative community is important?)

I believe the best work we all do is when we can work together as a creative community. Maritime facilitates musical collaboration both inside and outside of the studio. We operate the Rockport Acoustic Music Festival which is in its 44th season and support many initiatives to foster creativity. Maritime has been the home of legendary Jamaican reggae group Cultural Roots led by original vocalist Wade Dyce, been a place to gather and share music with artists like Salem’s own Mamadou Diop, and we partner with organizations like Foodies Without Borders to bring quality music and sound production to causes that bring people together to celebrate culture. Maritime is also just a great sounding space with excellent gear and musicians love to make music here!

What was the last book you read OR What was the last video you watched that made an impact on you?

The Creative Act by Rick Rubin

What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you or your business?

Every single piece of gear has a funny story about how it came to the studio. For example, my father and I rescued the 1965 Hammond organ from the town dump when I was a kid.
