MEMBER UPDATE!

The Salem Pantry Introduces “The Truck”
New Mobile Pantry Vehicle to Enhance Food Distribution in The Community
The Salem Pantry will majorly update its mobile pantry program with the introduction of The Truck.

This mobile pantry vehicle is designed to resemble a stall at a farmer’s market and will transform the pantry’s mobile pantry program. Complete with refrigerated storage to ensure food items stay fresh and an innovative design to open and display food swiftly, The Truck will provide a more efficient approach to bringing food into the community.

“We are grateful to the City of Salem’s Mayor Pangallo and MA Lieutenant Governor Driscoll for supporting The Salem Pantry’s acquisition of The Truck. This new vehicle will allow for a more dignified visit to The Salem Pantry’s mobile pantry program and allow for us to reach more people in need of food assistance.”

This update to the mobile pantry program will enable The Salem Pantry to expand its reach into underserved areas with an approachable and welcoming design. Much like The Market, the pantry’s physical location, The Truck is designed to create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for guests while providing a large variety of food.

In addition to expanding its outreach, The Truck will enhance The Salem Pantry’s existing partnerships within the community. This includes a strengthened collaboration with Salem State University, a long-time pantry partner, to help address on-campus hunger.

The Truck, which will soon visit two prominent locations on campus, will closely partner with the university’s on-campus pantry to offer a wide variety of food items, focusing on fresh produce and protein options.

“We are grateful to the Salem Pantry for supporting our community members, especially Salem State students. Forty percent of our students qualify as low income, and we have about 80 students that are homeless,” said Nate Bryant, Vice President of Student Success.

In the coming weeks, the Truck will appear at all of The Salem Pantry’s current mobile distribution sites across the city. Please look out for more details on our website.
