North Shore Concert Band’s summer series offers FREE outdoor concerts in the beautiful setting of Salem Willows. It’s an excellent opportunity to turn off social media and see real humans play musical instruments (at a professional level) and to hear music from many composers, eras, and genres.
Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do. Share your passions for your business, organization, or initiative.
I “subbed into” the band for a few seasons before becoming a “regular” player about 10 years ago under the current Music Director David Benjamin. It is a music treat for me to sit among my peers and play a wide variety of music every Tuesday all summer. As professional musicians, we speak the same language and share our own musical pursuits.
What is the last thing you read, watched, or listened to that had an impact on you?
I am currently reading Timothy Egan’s book “A Fever In The Heartland” – “The Ku Klux Klan’s Plot to take over America, and the woman who stopped them.” The historical time period is the Jazz Age (Roaring Twenties), and as a musician I have known about the racial inequities experienced by brilliant musicians, but this “telling” is stupefying.
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you or your business?
That there is EXCELLENT music for FREE on Tuesday nights in the summer at Salem Willows! Check out the website https://northshoreconcertband.com for full schedule details.
