Eric Glass, Rumson’s Rum
Tell us a bit about you and what you do?
I am the founder or Rumson’s Rum (Pirate Dog Brand LLC). We make world class rums by selecting unique and exceptional aged barrel rum to blend here in our Salem Rum house. Our mission is to make exceptional spirits for spirited folks with stories to share. World Class from Salem Mass is a driving force. Life Lived, Life Enjoyed is our motto.
What part of your job would you consider creative, and why do you enjoy that part of what you do?
Our job is creative in many ways. First the product we make is hand blended in our Salem Mass rum house. New product offerings and blends are creative in the process we use to make them. Hand blending and sampling every batch for taste. Our Marketing and packaging are creative in the design we leverage to communicate our essence to our consumers and customers and the messaging and mediums we use to reach the consumer. We constantly strive to experiment, and improve leveraging our creative spirit to offer exceptional product to our pack.
How does your creative work contribute to the growth and stability of the Creative Economy? If this isn’t applicable: Why do you feel a healthy creative economy is important to a successful community?
Creative is multi faceted. We are creative in our branding and product offering. We consciously try to support and be involved with many local platforms and our charity involvement. In addition to being members of the Creative Collective, we are actively involved with the Marblehead Festival of Arts, RAW Art Works, local artisans and creators as well as charity events for Cancer, disease states, health and others. By being involved with these organizations we are able to support causes in need as well as spread the word through consumer engagement of the “creative” on the North Shore.
What’s your favorite part of running/managing a local business?
Making product is awesome. It is a great day when we are making rum. Consumer response is very rewarding when we are an event supporting great causes and we hear “wow! Your product is fantastic”. Affirmation of doing it right keeps us on track.
What’s the one thing people would be surprised to learn about you our your business?
Oh boy. Legitimately we have been chased by pirates while boating in the Caribbean. We eluded them after 30 minute chase and now can tell our story.
