In your own words, tell us about your business, organization, or initiative.
Salem Summer Jam Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Salem, Massachusetts, dedicated to celebrating cultural arts, strengthening community connections, and empowering youth through inclusive programming. Our mission is to create spaces where families, young people, artists, and local organizations can come together to build a stronger and more vibrant North Shore community.
Our signature event, the Salem Summer Jam Festival, is a free, family-friendly cultural arts festival held annually at Salem Willows Park. The festival brings together live music, dance performances, youth talent, local vendors, community resources, and interactive activities designed to inspire creativity and leadership among young people. By removing financial barriers, we ensure families from all backgrounds can participate and benefit from the experience.
Beyond the festival, Salem Summer Jam works year-round to support youth development, community engagement, and inclusive initiatives. We collaborate with local schools, nonprofits, businesses, and public agencies to host events such as teen job fairs, educational resources, and fundraising programs that support families and underserved populations. A key focus of our work is ensuring opportunities for individuals who are often underrepresented or underserved, including youth from diverse cultural backgrounds, children with autism, and veterans with disabilities and their families. Through partnerships and volunteer leadership, we strive to provide meaningful opportunities for artistic expression, mentorship, and community support.
Salem Summer Jam was honored as the 2025 North Shore Latino Business Association Nonprofit of the Year, recognizing our commitment to building unity through culture, creativity, and community collaboration. Through every event and partnership, our goal is simple: to create joyful, inclusive spaces where youth can grow, families can connect, and the community can celebrate together.
Tell us a bit about you and why you do what you do. Share your passions for your business, organization, or initiative.
My name is Socrates Trinidad, and I am the President and CEO of Salem Summer Jam Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to celebrating cultural arts, empowering youth, and strengthening community connections across the North Shore.
My passion for this work is deeply personal. I am a U.S. Latino Marine Corps veteran, a youth development professional, and someone who has seen firsthand how important community support systems are. My brother is nonverbal and autistic, which has shaped my perspective on inclusion and advocacy. Growing up with him taught me the importance of creating environments where everyone—regardless of ability—has the opportunity to be seen, supported, and valued.
Through my work with teens and families, I have also seen how young people thrive when they are given positive outlets, mentorship, and spaces where they can express themselves. That belief is what inspired me to create Salem Summer Jam. What started as an idea to bring the community together through music, dance, and cultural arts has grown into a nonprofit initiative focused on youth leadership, family engagement, and inclusive programming.
Our goal is to create events and opportunities where youth can discover their talents, families can connect with resources, and the community can celebrate culture and unity together. We intentionally design our programs to be inclusive, particularly for individuals with autism, veterans and their families, and communities that may not always have access to these opportunities.
For me, this work is about service—continuing the spirit of service I learned in the military by investing in the next generation and building a stronger, more compassionate community. Every event we organize is driven by the belief that when we bring people together with purpose, creativity, and inclusion, we create lasting impact.
