About North Shore AAPI Coalition
North Shore AAPI Coalition is an inclusive, multicultural nonprofit dedicated to celebrating and empowering the Asian American and Pacific Islander community in Salem and across the North Shore of Massachusetts. What began as a heartfelt community potluck has grown into a thriving 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizing cultural events, civic engagement, and community-building initiatives. Furthermore, the Coalition serves as a welcoming space for AAPI individuals, blended families, and allies to connect, share stories, and advocate together.
Our Experience
The Coalition is the first AAPI community group on the North Shore. Many of its members grew up in the region and remember the isolation of being one of the few AAPI families around. That lived experience drives the organization’s work every day. Additionally, strong partnerships with local institutions, city officials, cultural organizations, and fellow nonprofits help amplify AAPI voices and increase visibility across the region.

Moreover, events regularly feature live music, traditional crafts, cultural workshops, and food — creating rich, welcoming experiences for attendees of all backgrounds.
North Shore AAPI Coalition Civic Engagement & Advocacy
Beyond celebration, the organization works to increase AAPI representation and visibility in civic life. The Coalition has coordinated annual flag raisings in Salem and collaborated with elected officials and advocacy partners to amplify AAPI issues and concerns. In addition, it actively builds relationships with allies to create a more inclusive and equitable North Shore.
Community Building
At its core, the organization exists to build community. It creates space for AAPI individuals and families to meet others who share their experiences, celebrate their heritage, and support one another. Consequently, whether through a potluck, a workshop, or a parade, every event is designed with connection in mind.
What Makes North Shore AAPI Coalition Special
This entirely volunteer-led organization has quickly become a cornerstone of AAPI community life on the North Shore — and many people are surprised to learn just how recently it was founded. Meanwhile, its all-volunteer structure means every dollar donated goes directly to free, public programming that benefits the community.
