Artists, get your portfolios ready. It’s time to start submitting applications for events this year.
The days are getting longer and vendor fair and festival applications are starting to pop up for events North of Boston. If you’re a vendor, artist, or performer, you can use the downtime between the holidays and the festival season to submit applications and get your events calendar ready to go for 2020.
Here are some of the upcoming North of Boston Artist opportunities for you to consider.
Lynn Cultural District – Canvas the City Artist Grant
Application Deadline: February 24th, 2020
The Downtown Lynn Cultural District (DTLCD) has generously been allocated a portion of funding within the state’s earmarked budget. They’ve created a unique granting opportunity for the community that they are calling ‘Canvas the City’.
Each chosen artist will receive $1,000 towards their project paid through an initial $500 stipend, then a $500 reimbursement at the end of the granting period (after July 1, 2020) upon satisfactory proof of completion. For the full RFP, please click here.
Salem Arts Association: Young At Art – Exhibition Dates – April 3, 2020
The Salem Arts Association is excited to open our 2020 exhibition schedule with “Young at Art”, a showcase of artwork from local teens. All current Salem residents, Salem public, private, charter school students, and members of any Salem-based organization between the ages of 13 -19 are invited to bring on your best work. Let’s show the community what you have to offer in all of your diverse styles and artistic disciplines.

Opportunities from Northeast ArcWorks
Northeast ArcWorks and ArcWorks Art Community Center put out many artist calls throughout the year. Their current exhibition, Ideas About Love, will run from February 13 – March 20th. Click here to see their updated calls for art throughout the year.
In the meantime, Northeast Arc is looking for special makers to sell their work in their new shop in Danvers. Northeast Arc is opening a storefront at the Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers.
The store will sell curated items that are made/created by people with disabilities and Autism or designed and developed through a business owned by a person with a disability or Autism. Miranda’s Hearth – The Mariposa Project: May 2, 2020
For the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, Miranda’s Hearth is coordinating The Mariposa Project: una celebración de la migración / a celebration of migration.
Inspired by Favianna Rodriguez’s “Migration is Beautiful” project in 2012, The Mariposa Project celebrates the natural and beautiful process of migration as embodied by the annual 3,000 mile migration of the monarch butterfly.

The Salem Flea – Every Third Saturday from May to October
Vendor Fees: SALEM Residents: $70, Non-SALEM Residents: $80
Location: Derby Square, Salem, MA
The Salem Flea will feature a juried selection of vendors of vintage and up-cycled furniture, vintage clothing, collectibles, antiques, architectural salvage as well as a select number of jewelry, art, and handmade goods by local artisans.

North Shore Mall Summer Entertainment Series – Summer 2020
The North Shore Mall Summer Entertainment Series will return to North Shore Mall in 2020, stay tuned for details.
Salem Arts Fest – June 5, 6, 7, 2020
The 2020 Salem Arts Festival, running from Friday, June 5th through Sunday, June 7th, will celebrate the arts in all its forms: painting, photography, sculpture, installation, dance, music, writing, film, new media, performance, theater, poetry, culinary, visual art and more. The 2020 festival will consist of a gallery of juried artists’ work in Old Town Hall, performance in an outdoor stage venue, indoor performances, a street fair, and opportunities for the community to actively participate in the arts. Individuals are welcome to contribute at multiple venues and events.

The Salem Arts Festival is organized and planned by Salem Main Streets, Creative Collective, and many members of the community volunteering their time.
Peabody Essex Museum Block Party – July 2020 (Dates TBD)

Vendor Fees: $100 for a 10X10 space, Creative Collective, and Salem Arts Association members receive a $15 discount.
Location: Salem – Essex Street between Hawthorne Square and the Armory Park
The annual block party hosted by the Peabody Essex Museum is one of the biggest community events around! Featuring local artisans, live music, Dj’s, food trucks, art-making, activities, dancing and more!

Peabody International Festival – Fall 2020

Vendor Fees: $100 for a 10×10 space. ($85 for CC Members)
Application Deadline: TBD
Location: Foster Street and Citizen’s Lot, Peabody, MA
Peabody International Festival is proud to provide a platform for local artists, makers, creatives and crafters to sell their wares and creations. All vending spaces are 10X10 and you will receive more details and an invoice upon acceptance. This is a juried market! After many years of reviewing applications, we HIGHLY suggest you take the time to provide us with thorough descriptions and quality imagery that is reflective of your line of products.

October in Salem – Haunted Happenings 2020
October Vending – 15 dates – 9,10,11,16,17,18,23,24,25,26,27,28,29,30,31. Prices range based on location $145-$250/day.
The most famous marketplace in Salem returns in 2020 with 15 dates over three weeks.
