The Salem Arts Association is entering an exciting new chapter with the appointment of Patti Baker as Director, a role made possible through the generous support of the Margaret and Michael Schrage Fund. For Salem’s vibrant creative community, this announcement signals fresh energy and renewed possibilities.

A Leader with Deep Roots in North Shore Arts

Baker brings an impressive track record from her time as Executive Director of the Marblehead Arts Association, where she successfully grew membership and expanded public programming. Her experience extends beyond traditional arts administration—she also served as Events Manager for the North Shore Chamber of Commerce, building valuable connections with local businesses, civic leaders, and nonprofit organizations.

“These relationships, combined with her proven fundraising abilities, position her perfectly to advance our mission,” explains the strategic value of Baker’s diverse background.

Artist Meets Administrator: A Unique Perspective

What sets Baker apart is her dual identity as both an accomplished artist and an experienced administrator. She’s earned recognition for her graphic design work and traditional Nantucket basketry, including People’s Choice Awards and Best in Show honors. This artistic foundation gives her genuine insight into the challenges and opportunities facing creative professionals.

“Patti brings a rare combination of creative vision, organizational leadership, and deep community roots,” said Deborah Greel, President of the Salem Arts Board. “We’re excited for the future of Salem Arts with Patti guiding the way.”

Vision for Salem’s Creative Future

Baker’s approach focuses on community connection and collaboration. “This is a community brimming with talent, creativity, and heart,” she shared. “My goal is to help reconnect artists and art lovers to all the value that this organization has to offer—and to grow that value through collaboration, fresh programming, and renewed energy.”

Her priorities include:

  • Strengthening member engagement and support
  • Expanding exhibition opportunities for local artists
  • Growing the organization’s regional visibility and impact
  • Developing innovative programming that serves Salem’s diverse community
