From Salem Film Fest
As we move forward with our plans for Salem Film Fest 2021 (March 19 – 28, 2021) we are happy to offer you some monthly documentary streaming offerings to whet your appetite.
To get you started we are offering a film that was originally in this year’s festival lineup but that we weren’t able to screen at our virtual festival this past July. KOSHIEN: JAPAN’S FIELD OF DREAMS is director Ema Ryan Yamazaki’s look at Japan’s “Koshien” – a national high school baseball tournament that rivals US college football in terms of fanaticism and following. The tourney has turned out players who have gone on to star in Major League Baseball, such as the current Los Angeles Angels phenom Shohei Ohtani who is a force both on the mound and at the plate. The film is a fascinating spotlight on the attention to detail, discipline and respect that is required to make it as a baseball player in Japan.
SFF is making the film available to stream for a $10 rental from Friday, November 20th through Thursday, December 3 and will share rental profits with the filmmakers. We’ll also be recording a q&a tomorrow with the director, and will post it on our Facebook and Vimeo pages.
A New Salem Sketch!
We are unlocking another of our 2020 Salem Sketches this week. I believe it’s the only Sketch we have made about a person no longer with us, but the spirit and the work of Quinton Jones is still very much a presence in the family house he lived in on Salem’s Broad Street. Perry Hallinan and I explored the Jones’ homestead last year, where we talked with his family and historian Robert Booth about this fascinating man and the work he left behind. A short portrait of the person and place come together in SALEM SKETCH #68 QUINTON.

Stay tuned to this event for information on businesses throughout the North shore. We will be highlighting the humans behind the small businesses, showcasing specials and promotions, and also curating experiences that will make your local shopping even better!A priority this year will be to educate consumers on the safety protocols that so many of our fantastic businesses have implemented in response to the Coronavirus pandemic.
