Saturday brought heavy snowfall to downtown Salem — and it made Salem’s So Sweet ice sculpture trail even more spectacular. Dozens of hand-carved ice sculptures lined the streets, each one sponsored by a local Salem business and adding a unique touch to the winter wonderland atmosphere.
Highlights included a stunning replica of Old Town Hall sponsored by Derby Square Architects, a rearing horse from Annie’s Asian Mart, an intricate witch and moon carving outside Moon’s Gift Shop, and a glowing heart sculpture from Witch City Wicks. The Salem Witch Museum and Roger Conant statue looked picture-perfect, blanketed in snow, and Jolie Tea Company’s storefront was bursting with Valentine’s Day balloons.
For those looking to warm up, Whimsy’s Sweet Life had trays of gourmet chocolate truffles ready to satisfy any sweet tooth. And through it all, visitors bundled up and explored the snowy Essex Street pedestrian mall, taking in the sculptures and the magic of a true New England winter day in Salem.
