About Wait and See Edition
Sevening (v.): the act of showing up after seven(ish) — for your people, your community, and honestly yourself in Essex County. Still don’t know what that means? Well, wait and see — the full definition’s chilling in our About Time Edition.
Oh hey there, Essex County. I know you can’t wait to get into this week’s sevenings, honeys. Neither can we, but no need to rush. We know, we know patience isn’t your strong suit, but just hold tight for one hot second and let the wait do what it do: build to something worth seeing.
Last week Essex County learned that what goes around comes right back around — five dollars became a monthly tradition, a tip became a standing ovation, a donation became a full pantry. Heavy Bevies rocked, Off Cabot improvised, Newburyport soiree’d, a sunflower cake got piped, the gardens got some golden-hour yoga, the Speakeasy got scandalous, Eden’s birthday turned bloody in the best way, and more sevenings always circled back.
This week, though? Essex County isn’t boomeranging anything yet. This week, we’re all just standing here, breath held, waiting to see how it lands. A spider gets pinned mid-pose and nobody knows the final shape till the last leg’s placed. A bingo card sits there, silent, until it isn’t. A wrestler’s fate gets decided live, no script, no do-overs. A date either sparks or it doesn’t, and you won’t know till round three. Even the storytellers — the legends, the horror icons — are making it up fresh, live, right in front of you. Essex County, this week we don’t get the ending early. We wait. We see. That’s the whole deal.

Free Screening – Sing 2 at 6:30 PM
Koala impresario Buster Moon has one job: wait for his reclusive rock star to say yes, and see if the whole extravaganza doesn’t collapse before curtain. The Cabot is screening this free family flick as part of Beverly Homecoming, and honey, the suspense is PG-rated but the stakes are pure diva. Will the show go on? Will the koala choke? Grab the kids, grab a seat, and hold your applause till the encore actually happens. 110 minutes of will-they-won’t-they, animal-kingdom edition. No ticket required, just a willingness to wait for the big number and see if it slaps.

Free Bingo Night with Will Pottorff at 6:00 PM
The BINGO KING himself is calling numbers, and honeys, you will not know your fate until he says it out loud. That’s the whole sport of it — daub, wait, wince, repeat, until somebody’s shrieking across the room. And I mean shrieking. Gulu-Gulu Cafe hosts this weekly free ritual where royalty (his words, allegedly) presides over your Wednesday night destiny. Bring a friend, bring your lucky dauber, and bring the patience of a saint, because this crown doesn’t hand out spoilers. The bingo cards want you to get the spinach artichoke dip and the dewdrop sunset to get you going. B-4 you know it, you’ll be waiting on the edge of your seat for that one last number.

General Knowledge Trivia at 7:00 PM
You studied your whole life for this — or, you know, absorbed random facts by osmosis, which like, totally counts. Granite Coast Brewing hosts this free questionable showdown where every answer gets locked in and then — wait for it — you sit there sweating till the scores drop. Wear the merch for bonus points, because apparently Granite Coast rewards brand loyalty and general knowledge equally. Fair warning: if fewer than six trivia titans show up, the whole thing’s cancelled, so don’t make us wait around for nothing, honeys. Show up. See who’s smartest. Simple as that. Oh Seraphine! I’m coming for you, boo.
Conant Street Walking Tour at 6:30 PM
Three hundred years of history crammed into six-tenths of a mile, honeys, and you won’t know what’s waiting round the next colonial corner till you’re standing on it. Historic Beverly leads this short-but-dense sevenings stroll past the Conant Street Burial Ground, the North Meeting House, and enough Batchelder-Dodge-Woodberry family real estate to make a genealogist weep, all tracing back to Revolution-era names like Reverend Enos Hitchcock. Ten dollars, five for members and Card to Culture, capacity capped, meeting spot revealed just 24 hours out — so even showing up requires a little faith. Suspense, but make it historic.

SNW Presents: The Art of Survival! at 6:00 PM
Um, hellur! This is what we’ve been waiting for. Oh, it’s on! Nothing about wrestling is scripted in stone, honeys — it’s live, it’s loud, and it is entirely possible somebody eats the mat tonight. Lynn Music Foundation hosts SNW’s stacked “Big 3” card, including qualifier matches for the Inaugural Bobby D’s Trios Tournament, at the Neal Rantoul Vault Theatre. Meet-and-greets kick things off at 6:30, bell time hits at 7, and from there? Anyone’s guess who’s still standing. Who will get the Nova blast? Don’t make me bring out the Novacane! Adults twenty, kids five, under-fives free — an all-ages invitation to wait, watch, and see exactly who survives this sevening.
Speed Dating Ages 35-49 at 7:00 PM
Every round’s a cliffhanger, honeys. You sit down, you talk, the bell rings, you move — and you will not know who actually checked your box until the very end. Granite Coast Brewing’s Sips & Sparks event pairs guided rounds with a post-event matching system, so the real plot twist arrives after you’ve already gone home wondering. Craft beer in hand, nerves slightly jangled, hope fully intact — this is romance on a suspenseful, sip-sized timer. Will it spark? Grab a seat, grab a drink, and wait to find out. It looks like Seraphine and I are double dating this week. Woo hoo!
Garrison Keillor Tonight at 8:00 PM
The man wrote Lake Wobegon out of thin air and he is still doing it live, which means even he might not know exactly where tonight’s story lands until he lands it. The Cabot welcomes the longtime Prairie Home Companion host for a sevening of storytelling, humor, and song that unfolds in real time, no safety net, no script you’ve heard before. Settle in, let the tangents wander wherever they want, and trust that the payoff — like all good stories — is worth every minute you waited for it.

Christopher Golden’s Carry Me to Your Bookshelf Tour at 4:30 PM
Horror is my all-time fave! And horror author Christopher Golden knows a thing or two about delayed reveals — the man’s entire career is built on making you wait for the scare. Off Cabot hosts this pop-up mini-convention book tour stop with panel discussions and signings alongside a lineup of fellow horror writers, so you’ll get live Q&A chaos on top of the new release itself. Bring your questions, bring your dog-eared paperbacks, and brace for whatever plot twists these panelists are willing to spoil — or, more likely, aren’t.
Orb Weaver Pinning Workshop: Spider in Motion at 8:00 PM
Eight legs, infinite poses, and you won’t know your spider’s final silhouette until the very last pin goes in. Nocturne hosts Preserved by Elliot at the Hill House Parlour for a gothic crafting evening in delicate specimen preservation — crawling, reaching, mid-spin, it’s entirely up to your steady hand and questionable patience. No experience necessary, all supplies included, full atmospheric dread optional but strongly encouraged. Space is limited, so don’t wait on tickets — do wait, very carefully, on that eighth leg. We’ve already got the creepy crawlies in the best way.

WHODUNNIT… with a Peg Leg! at 7:30 PM
The whole premise is right there in the name, honeys. Cinema Salem turns a cozy comfort-TV mystery into a full interactive event — laugh, cheer, evaluate every suspect, then submit your theory once all the clues drop. Solve it right and you win Whodunnit-themed prizes; solve it wrong and, well, you waited for nothing but a good time, which totally still counts. Bingo runs throughout, every screening plays out differently, and nobody — cast, crew, or audience — knows the ending till it’s announced. Peg leg highly encouraged. Tee hee.
Consider this your official permission to sit tight, honeys. Nothing this week gets handed to you early. You show up, you hold your breath a little, and then you see.
That’s just some of what’s waiting to be seen and sevening this week; the full lineup lives on the calendar. CC members, submit a member marketing request and let your event join the waiting game too.
Not on the newsletter yet? That’s one plot twist you can actually control. Get on it. And follow us on the socials — @creativecollectivema and @creativecollectiveexplores — both, every week, no exceptions.
Until next week Essex County. Stay sevening. You know where to find us. We’re everywhere, and honeys, we already know how this ends — you just have to wait and see.
— (unforever) yeong and the (s)evening shift, out. Suspense included. Dun dun duuuun…
