About Alisa Sickora

Alisa Sickora is a Lowell, Massachusetts-based artist, designer, fabricator, educator, and world builder with nearly three decades of experience making the impossible tangible. Her work moves fluidly between fine art, live performance, themed entertainment, and immersive experience design — always rooted in the uncanny, the theatrical, and the darkly whimsical. Furthermore, Alisa is the creative force behind three distinct projects: Scared of My Shadow, her handcrafted leather mask atelier; Whitherwick Junction, an evolving immersive experience; and Be a Witness, an experiential art initiative that appears in the most unexpected places.

Core Offerings
  • Handcrafted leather masks, headdresses, and accessories — Scared of My Shadow
  • Custom character and costume design for film, theatre, attractions, and events
  • Immersive experience design and world building — Whitherwick Junction and Be a Witness
  • Puppet and wearable sculpture fabrication
  • Specialized makeup effects
  • Themed entertainment design — both licensed IP and original work
Scared of My Shadow

Scared of My Shadow is Alisa’s boutique leather mask atelier, producing hauntingly beautiful, expertly handcrafted masks, headdresses, and accessories for collectors, performers, and industry professionals. Each piece is hand-formed from vegetable-tanned leather, hand-dyed, and finished with distinctive details including 3D-printed components, hand-modeled horn replicas, and hand-tied hair. Moreover, every mask is designed for extreme comfort and adjustability without sacrificing beauty — made to be worn, and loved by collectors. Scared of My Shadow serves film and television productions, haunted attractions, commercial clients, immersive experiences, photographers, theatre companies, and individual collectors. Custom orders and one-of-a-kind pieces are available by inquiry.

Whitherwick Junction

Whitherwick Junction is a collection of mini-immersive experiences designed to be mobile, scalable, and richly narrative. Featuring exquisitely handcrafted costumes and artifacts, each activation brings another piece of a world-building puzzle to life — rooted in a newly imagined palimpsest IP that feels both familiar and foreign. Additionally, the project includes curated artwork, performances, games, make-and-take activities, guest food and beverage vendors, and uncanny encounters with its luring community. Whitherwick Junction is supported by grants from Mass Cultural Council and Mosaic Lowell.

Spooky Doings Lowell

Alisa is also part of the team behind Spooky Doings Lowell, a community initiative bringing haunted events, tours, activations, and spooktacular programming to Lowell, Massachusetts in collaboration with like-minded local creatives.

What Makes Alisa Sickora Special

Alisa Sickora does not simply make things — she engineers authenticity. Every object, costume, and experience she creates is grounded in careful research, rigorous collaboration, and a commitment to narrative truth that makes the fictional feel real. Consequently, whether she is building a leather mask for a haunted attraction or designing a world that unfolds across a series of immersive activations, the result is always the same: something that resonates, lingers, and invites others into a world that feels entirely possible.
