About Outside the Box Learning Company

Outside the Box Learning Company is a mobile, hands-on learning program bringing fun, engaging, and totally unforgettable classes and events directly to schools, libraries, families, and organizations across the North Shore and beyond. Founded by Linda Sessa — homeschooling mom, artist, educator, and self-described curious child at heart — the company specializes in messy science, fiber arts, nature studies, cooking, STEAM, and life skills for all ages. Furthermore, every program is built around a simple but powerful mission: to make learning fun, accessible, and empowering for every child and adult who shows up.

Our Experience

Linda Sessa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Multicultural Education, a cosmetology teaching certification, and training in culinary arts — but it is her personal experience that sets her apart. She has been teaching since her teens, raised a son through homeschooling, and brings a neurodiverse perspective to every class she facilitates. Additionally, all programs are led by CPR and First Aid certified instructors and are fully insured, giving partnering organizations complete peace of mind.

Outside the Box Learning Company Science Programs

Messy science is where the magic happens. Signature programs include:

  • Non-Newtonian Fluids — The wild world of cornstarch and water
  • Kinetic Sand from Scratch — Squishy, satisfying, and science-packed

Each program runs approximately one hour and is capped at 15 participants for a personalized experience.

Fiber Arts & Sewing

Saturday sewing classes run weekly and are open to ages seven and up — adults and families warmly encouraged. In addition, the full fiber arts curriculum includes crochet, freestyle embroidery, wet and dry felting, t-shirt design, wreath making, and more, available for schools, scouts, libraries, and private events.

Nature Studies, Cooking & Life Skills

Outside the Box Learning Company takes learning beyond the classroom with nature exploration programs spanning beach ecology, forest floors, fungi, and garden building. Cooking programs range from pasta making and cupcake decorating to international cuisine and farm-to-table experiences. Meanwhile, life skills programming for teens covers budgeting, friendship skills, meditation, and more.
