The Salem Pantry volunteer program grows to support the dramatic rise in food pantry visits.

Salem, MA – The Salem Pantry is calling community volunteers to join the effort to provide food for their Salem and North Shore neighbors.

The Salem Pantry’s volunteer team plays a crucial role in operating the organization’s variety of programs, including weekly Pop-Up Pantries and The Market, the organization’s new brick-and-mortar location.

“We owe our ability to serve as many guests as we do to our amazing group of volunteers,” Volunteer and Pantry Guest Coordinator Stefanie Gianquitto states. “In order to achieve our mission, we will need even more members of our community to join us as volunteers.

In the month of June alone, The Salem Pantry received support from 104 volunteers who contributed over 700 hours of their time distributing food. With the newly expanded pantry, there are additional volunteer opportunities available.

“With the launch of The Market, we are serving more pantry guests than ever before,” said Gianquitto. “Growing our volunteer cohort will help to ensure that we can continue to provide food for all that need it.”

Key opportunities are available for volunteers to assist with the day-to-day operations at The Market and the Pantry’s Home Delivery program, which provides food for homebound individuals throughout Salem.

Flexible volunteer shifts, spanning two hours each, are available at various times, including nights and weekends. By contributing their time, volunteers will make an immediate impact on the Salem and North Shore Community, providing food to over 6,500 people each month.
