Creative North Shore editor Joey Phoenix sat down with Madeline Mooney of Moonchild Reiki and Herbals and Deanna Jacome of Shady Tree Maker to talk about their upcoming collaborative workshop The Art of Healing this Thursday night, November 29th, at 12 Oak Growth and Renewal Center in Beverly Farms, MA.

JP: Tell me a bit about you and what you do

MM: I am a Reiki Master Teacher, herbalist, and intuitive with the intention to create supportive, magical healing and learning experiences for people of all ages. In addition to my healing practice, I am a public school-based Speech & Language Therapist. Through the schools and my healing work, I help to help people connect to and express who they are with greater ease.

DJ: Well, I am a full-time working artist, my art studio is in Beverly, MA and I live here in Salem. I run my art business Shady Tree Maker which sells my nature and healing inspired goods including, Turkish Marbled products, hand-bound sketchbooks and journals, flower crowns and faery wings. I am also a mixed-media painter, I use found materials, natural elements, pieces of past paintings, to help me discover and celebrate inner growth and the interconnectedness of us all through nature.

JP: Tell me about what you two are doing with this class and why it’s important?

DJ: Madeline and I are working together to create, what we hope to become a series of workshops devoted to helping participants cultivate practices that can add healing into their everyday lives through tea, tarot, art making, and Reiki.

I think that for most of us taking time to be kind to ourselves and check in with what our minds, bodies and hearts need can feel like we are spoiling ourselves, like it is something we don’t deserve, when in reality it is our right. To discover what heals us in one way or another is so important, and to get to bring that to people is so exciting and such an honor.

MM: Deanna and I both have a passion for helping individuals connect to themselves and to the earth through our creative/ healing practices. We seem to share a common goal that we accomplish in different ways, so are excited to work together to create a holistic feeling experience . We all deserve time to slow down and take care; by taking care of ourselves we also take care of those around us! This is an opportunity for folx to reflect, connect, and create.

JP: Who is this class for?

MM: This class is for anyone for whom it sparks an interest! It is our intention to create an inclusive, healing space for connection and reflection.

JP:What inspired you to create this space?

MM:  I crave spaces to be creative and explore the healing arts. I am excited that Deanna and I can help provide this together! We hope to create a comfortable space where people can express who they are.

DJ: I know what my life looked like before I had self care and I want to bring a sense of ownership and power to people, that they can do so many things to bring peace and healing into their lives.

JP: What will the attendees be doing during the class?

DJ: Participants will begin by setting their intention of exploration, in a relaxed, tea and tarot filled environment. Keeping that idea in the mind, they will engage with beautiful and unique natural objects provided by those around them. The physicality and truth of art making and its materials will be facilitated and participants will create process based art pieces. This will be followed by a Reiki circle to help guide the energy forward that you discovered and brought into the evening.

JP: Does someone have to be an artist to be able to experience this and enjoy it?

DJ: Absolutely not! The art portion of the event is all about the process not the product. The exercise is about tapping into your own intuition- that can never be done incorrectly.

MM: I crave spaces to be creative and explore the healing arts. I am excited that Deanna and I can help provide this together! We hope to create a comfortable space where people can express who they are
