Michelle LaPoetica Richardson is transforming Lynn’s creative landscape with DENCITY Open Mic, an innovative performance series hosted at the historic Neal Rantoul Vault Theatre. This isn’t just another open mic – it’s a carefully curated experience designed to nurture and elevate the local artistic community.

A Vision of Creative Community

Richardson’s vision for DENCITY extends far beyond the traditional open mic format. Each event unfolds with a unique touch: performers’ names are drawn from the “Lighthouse,” creating an evening of spontaneous artistic discovery. Whether you’re a poet, musician, or storyteller, the stage at DENCITY offers five minutes to share your craft in a supportive, professional environment. What makes Richardson’s program particularly special is its comprehensive approach to artist support. Professional photographers are on hand to capture each performance, allowing artists to build their portfolios with high-quality images. Coming January 2025, performances will reach even broader audiences through local community access TV broadcasts.

Creating Opportunities for Artists

DENCITY’s ecosystem of support reaches beyond the stage. Richardson has developed multiple pathways for artists to grow and thrive: The vendor program offers local creators prime space to showcase their work, with six-foot tables in a room full of art enthusiasts and community supporters. It’s an opportunity to connect with an audience that values authentic, local creativity. Through the Creative Consignment Program, artists can display their books, artwork, and merchandise without upfront costs, retaining 100% of their profits (minus a small processing fee). This innovative approach demonstrates Richardson’s commitment to making art accessible and sustainable for creators.

A Space for Everyone

Richardson’s dedication to inclusivity shapes every aspect of DENCITY. As a sober venue, the focus remains on art and community connection. The judgment-free zone policy ensures that performers of all experience levels find the encouragement they need to develop their craft. Community organizations also find a home at DENCITY, with dedicated resource tables that bridge the gap between art and activism. It’s a space where creative expression naturally flows into community engagement and positive change.

Nurturing Future Voices

Richardson’s commitment to artistic development extends to the next generation. The upcoming launch of North Shore Youth Spoken Word and Poetic Lynn’guistics youth open mic demonstrates her investment in nurturing young creative voices. These dedicated programs ensure that young artists have the platform to develop their craft and build confidence.
