The Salem Arts Association is excited to usher in a new chapter with Anastasia Alter stepping in as the President of our Board. Anastasia’s recent communication to our community shared her enthusiasm for her new role and reflected a deep understanding of art’s integral role in our lives. Her belief that art should be a part of our everyday experience and accessible to all resonates with the core values of our association.

Anastasia brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to her role at Salem Arts, with a background as a Sr. Director in an enterprise software organization, she has demonstrated her expertise in nurturing growth, fostering retention, and building community — managing a substantial customer portfolio and spearheading initiatives that drive business and individual success.

Incorporating Professional Expertise into Artistic Advocacy:

Anastasia’s professional journey, marked by leadership roles across various non-profits and a commitment to community engagement, aligns with her vision for Salem Arts. Her efforts have led to significant achievements, including winning consolidated business contracts, enhancing cash flow and employee retention strategies, and expanding membership bases. These accomplishments speak to her ability to innovate and execute with impact.

Her approach to leadership is grounded in two foundational beliefs learned through art: the value of innovative thinking over mere knowledge and the importance of communication and public engagement — a skill she humorously notes is often more feared than daunting natural predators. These principles have shaped her career and her vision for Salem Arts, emphasizing the need to create connections between artists, the public, and potential patrons to enrich our community and culture.

Looking Ahead: Plans for 2024 and Beyond

Anastasia’s innovative plans for 2024 are designed to open new avenues for artists and community members to engage, learn, and celebrate art together. Highlights include:

      • Solo Show Applications: Reintroducing solo exhibitions to spotlight the diverse talents within our community.
      • Community Workshops: Offering engaging workshops to provide unique learning and participatory experiences.
      • Signature Events: Hosting vibrant celebrations like ArtoberFest and The Holiday Market to bring our community together in appreciation of art.

Anastasia also invites the community to join the Salem Arts Association in upcoming receptions, including the Member Showcase and “This is Trans,” as opportunities to connect and inspire.

A Commitment to Growth and Community Engagement

Under Anastasia’s leadership, the 2024 Board of Directors is poised to foster a culture of creativity, community engagement, and artistic exploration. Her gratitude to her predecessors and the current board underscores a collaborative spirit and a commitment to building on the organization’s legacy.

As we embark on this exciting journey with Anastasia Alter at the helm, we invite our members, supporters, and the Salem community to engage with us. Together, we can shape a vibrant future for the arts in Salem, ensuring that art remains an accessible and enriching part of our daily lives.

For more information about our initiatives and how to get involved, visit www.SalemArts.org. Join us in championing a culture of equity, belonging, and artistic growth under Anastasia’s visionary leadership.
